The Indigenous Collections at the Royal BC Museum includes photographs, cultural objects and belongings from Indigenous territories throughout the province, spanning the early 19th century up to the present, and archaeological material representing 10,000 years of First Nations cultures and early settler communities.
Note that before 2015, archaeological collections were catalogued individually. Since that date, archaeological materials have been entered in the RBCM database by permit number and site number. Detailed information about individual belongings and other associated information can be accessed, with consent of the relevant First Nations, upon request to the BC Archaeology Collection Manager.
The collections include materials which contain information, language, and images that may be outdated or harmful. We acknowledge that this is a result of the long collecting history of the Royal BC Museum. We are actively researching the collections alongside communities to improve the information in our records.
