Standing Clock Music Box
Brass mechanism accepts single punched metal disk. Two rollers guide the edge over two combs of tines. Lever on the left is raised to activate mechanism. S shaped handle is inserted in side of box to wind mechanism. Handle and key inwooden box inside door of base. Serial number on comb is 353584 inscribed: Schutz Marke made in Germany with the logo of the symphonion company. The base containing the mechanism supports a clock. The outside of the box has a coin mechanism that was used when the object stood inside the entrance to eaton's in Toronto. The 1897 catalogue lists it as Style 25ST using 30 cm disks. 84 teeth on two combs. The St refers to "Standuhr" German for standing clock. Uses No. 25 disks. The Handle is located inside the front panel in a box. See document file for history of company, founded in 1885, the premient maker of music boxes in that era. One box of disks stored separately. Mechanism in good working order. Disk edges are supported by wheels and the arm is released by side pressure to the lever located at the top of the arm. Disks are locked in place by two pins in the centre.
