Description
Television Remote or Remote Control
Provenance
Zenith pioneered the early remotes. This heavy mechanical model would quickly evolve into the standard method for operating a television within a decade. Zenith's first remote control "Lazy Bone" was invented in 1950 and used a cable attachment. Dr. Robert Adler invented space command, a battery-less remote that sent ultrasonic signals by using buttons to strike combinations of four different length aluminum rods(up/down/on/off). The invention of the transistor moved ultra-sonics into the electronic era. By the 1980s infra-red transmitters were in use.
