Description
Quaich
Low, round cup with extended handles (slightly upward tipped) on right and left. Thumbs would fit on top of each handle, with fingers underneath, so a person would lift the cup up with both hands to drink. Silver sections in round, banded encasements. Ten pieces form cup, each three dimensional in cross section, more or less triangular, fitting together. On base one can see ends coming to a point, with a separate round piece in the middle. Each piece has a dark brown side on the right, and a light brown side on left (way wood was cut to expose this type of grain). Results in alternating pattern. Outside of lower cup has circular ridge carved out. Above it are two circular bands of bamboo, wrapped underneath each other, under the handles. Disc inside middle has initials in fancy script style. Hole at top of one piece at rim, and on base piece. Silver tarnished.
