Description
Wine Label
From a 2 L. bottle. Described on the label as being 14% alc./vol. In 1965 Calona built a still for use in fortifying wine. This still was used to make a series of 'Jack' wines, modeled on 'Triple Jack', a fortified apple wine from the Gallo winery in California. Calona's Jack wines were very popular in the late 1960s (especialy among novice drinkers who even formed 'Jack Wine Clubs'). Information on this subject gathered from John Schreiner's "The World of Canadian Wine". This label is probably from the later 1970s or 1980s as its metric size is listed. Listed in the LDB product catalogue for December 30, 1981 under Fortified Wine (Miscellaneous). The sweetness code was 07; a 2 L. bottle sold for $6.50.
