Description
Wine Label
Described on the label as being 20% alc./vol. In 1965 Calona built a still for use in fortifying wine. This still was used to make a series of 'Jack' wines, modeled on 'Triple Jack', a fortified apple wine from the Gallo winery in California. Calona's Jack wines were very popular in the late 1960s (especialy among novice drinkers who even formed 'Jack Wine Clubs'). Information on this subject gathered from John Schreiner's "The World of Canadian Wine". This label is probably from the late 1960s or 1970s as its metric size is not listed (post-metric labels tended to include this information). Listed in the LCB price list for June 01, 1972 under Canadian Dessert Wine (Berry). The sweetness code was 06; a 160 oz. bottle sold for $6.50 and a 40 oz. bottle for $1.75.
