Description
Dress
Made by Marjorie Gibbons Berry. Floral print has yellow background with blue, purple and orange flowers. Donor thought that dress originally had a coloured slip under it, of yellow or orange satin. Slip and belt are now missing. Dress is pullover style with a 30.5 cm (12") yellow "Flash" zipper on wearer's left side. Neckline is gathered above the shoulders. Outer sleeves are gathered to a depth of 10 cm (4") and gathered area ends in a bow of same material. Flared skirt is constructed of four panels. Appraiser thought that the dress may have been re-made in the 1940s. Textile conservator identified the weave of the fabric as leno weave, and the fabric itself may be rayon, but she would have to test a sample of it to be sure.
