Description
Christmas Greeting Card
Purchased Christmas card with handmade additions by Edith Louisa Higgins, nee Helmcken. Card is of heavy brown paper. Glued to the front is a picture of a child pushing a little dog in a wheelbarrow. The picture is a print of a watercolour on cream-coloured paper, and is entitled "Down the Garden Walk". Pink hollyhocks are in the background behind the child and dog. "Best Wishes" is stamped in gold-coloured ink underneath the picture. Inside the card is the sentiment "Can we forget one kindly voice or face which ever helped us -- cheered us in the race? With kind remembrances for Christmas and the Coming Year". Edith Louisa, also known as "Aunt Dolly", has glued a picture of three roses on the inside of the cover of the card, and inserted a 27 page typed booklet inside the card. Booklet is a children's story she wrote entitled "The Reception of Queen Rose and What Came of It by Edith L. Higgins". The booklet is dedicated to her sister Catherine Amelia McTavish. Author's signature in black ink is on the last page of the story.
