Made by Madam Mascaux, born in Marseilles, France, emigrated to Cloverdale BC over a 22 year period. Her idea was to display her work and donate the proceeds to the French Resistance or to the Free French Air Force toward the purchase of a Spitfire. The crochet is mainly "Solomon's Knot" (also known as fool's crochet and love knot stitch) directions for this stitch in Collections Documentation file. The rose and leaf design was conceived in a dream. The bedset includes bedspread, draperies, canopy, dresser scarves,lampshades and many small accessories. The size 14 crochet hook used to make the dress and bedset is catalogued as part of the bedset (2001.86.2q). Dress and bedset were displayed at the CNE in 1949 and David Spencer Ltd. in 1942.
