Balance Scale
Scale, weights and receipt with box; gold coloured metal scale (a) is constructed with two lower metal bowls suspended by chain from each end of an horizontal balance arm; the balance arm has a central upper pointed piece that is suspended and attached to an upper forked metal piece with a grommet that allows the balance arm to move; the uppermost forked piece has a string for hanging at the top; incised marks on the scale: 'to weigh 20 g'; included in the box are gold-coloured metal weights (b-e) with measurements for 1 G.M, 3 G.M, 5 G.M and 10 G.M; also in the box: a black plastic flat container (f) has additional weights with measurements that range from 1 - 500 mg; (g) metal tweezers; (h) one gold-coloured metal rod that screws into a plate in the box base to support the scales; box (i) is a red plastic or leather covered 2 pieced hinged container with red velvet lining; there are 2 gold-coloured closures and interior indentations in the box for the storage of the scales and weights; (j) a paper receipt for the purchase of the scales, dated Feb 19, 1988, purchaser - D.
