Description
Mitre Saw
Collected in woodworking bench in basement of family home. Family has a long history in Victoria back to the 1890s. The saw has a two foot blade, unusually long. No visible marks on the blade itself. Maker is stamped on the tag above. On the handle is the name G. Harris. Saw appears in mitre box in the Hammacher, Schlemmer & Co. Tools for All Trades 1896 catalogue reprint on p. 29 as saw No. 23 Size 2 24" x 4". Price $8.70. See copy in mitre saw document file. Not collected on initial collection. Identified in subsequent research and collected on second trip. Found on the same bench as the saw, Saw referred to as Back saw.
