Description
Purse
Small chain link, all metal, with a short chain attached to the top with a small ring. The top closure area is decorated with a German renascence floral design (from Franz Sales Meyer, Handbook of Ornament). The top is stamped 'EGB' a design, then '375 III'. Inside, just below the clasp the number 246.50 has been scratched in. Below the clasp there is a small ring perhaps to attach it to something else. A picture of a chatelaine (c. 1880) in the file shows just such a purse attached to the chatelaine (Carol McD. Wallace "Victorian Treasures"). 9 carat, imported into London in 1907.
