Description
Souvenir Plate
Slightly scalloped edge. Border of rim is decorated with oak leaves and acorns, centre is coat of arms, maple leaves and scroll reading "Dominion of Canada". Back centre is embossed with the word "Wedgwood". Also stamped in brown "Wedgwood / Etruria / England". Has pattern number of C3560 which was first recorded around 1902. Wedgwood of Canada advises re this pattern: "Three styles of plate were produced simultaneously, The Canadian Provinces, The British Arms and the Australian Badge. These issues would seem to have been manufactured to coincide with the Coronation of Edward VII. Original owner of plate was Mrs. May Baldwin, nee Dove, born in England, came to Canada as an infant, probably to Brantford Ontario. She married and moved to Hamilton, Ontario c. 1903. The plate was purchased on a trip down the St. Lawrence c. 1902.
