Medal; dogwood shape with leaves between petals; British Columbia crest surmounted by crown centre; reverse plain with text reading: "006"; on ribbon featuring green, white, yellow and blue bands; black presentation box with gold text reading: "ORDER / OF / BRITISH / COLUMBIA"; blue velvet lining.

Provenance
Order of British Columbia and original box awarded to Gerald Andrews for his diverse career in public surveyor. He was a surveyor who initiated the use of air photography in 1931, supervising air surveys in Nimkish Forest, Kitimat, the Kootenays and the Rocky Mt. Trench for the Province of British Columbia. He worked as Chief Air Survey Engineer for BC and as BC Surveyor General, in addition to serving as Director of Mapping and Provincial Boundaries Commissioner from 1952 to 1968.

He served as Lieutenant Colonel during World War Two, and worked on the development of improved air cameras for the Canadian Army, participating in depth soundings of Normandy beach by wave velocities determined by air photos. [Information from BC Gov website; more in document file]
