Description
Flying Helmet of Aviator Helmet
Fluorescent orange with flip down black visor. Front of helmet has hand-painted black skull and crossbones with submarine and the name "Churchill" underneath. Has earphones and microphone, green canvas and leather lining and harness. Has sewn-in label on harness that reads: "Helmets -summer flying Spec. No. MIL-H-7151(AER) Contract No. N383s-73542 Size Intermediate Slote & Klein, Inc." Used by Mike Churchill who was a naval aviator and later museu m security guard. He was stationed at Esquimalt, B.C. and Shearwater, N.S. - flew CS2F Tracker - was wearing this helmet when his plane crashed between Bermuda and New York in 1962....used the helmet to beat off sharks until rescued.
