Description
Flag
Solid dark blue background; imagery includes in the left top corner is the blue British Ensign; to the right, middle section is a white circle 23.6cm dia with a full colur design inside with a brown beaver standing on a green coloured rock surrounded with blue water, above are two crossed black staffs with a set of white wings attached at the top of one, the other has a gold coloured trident on the top; twisted around the staffs are two green snakes, between the tops of the staffs is a large brown coloured pinecone. Although there is not concert proof, this design is thought to have been the the flag for Vancouver Island. The beaver and staffs are the coat of arms for the colony of Vancouver Island. There is an alternate academic opinion the that this is a contemporary design from the 1960s when the blue ensign was altered. Flag purchased new at a retail store in Victoria, B.C. in 2007 by the RBCM for use in the BC150 exhibit, 2008.
