Description
Match Case or Vesta
(A) Silver and gilt Vesta (Match) case inscribed with the initials of HRH Prince Arthur William Patrick Albert, Duke of Connaught and Strathearm below a crown; hinged lid - when open reveals silver hallmarks; opposite side marked "SEAMLESS", strike plate on base; small circular ring to one edge for attachment; (B) contained within hinged black box with forest green fabric interior, gold letting to interior of lid "COLLINGWOOD & CO / TO THE ROYAL FAMILY / 46 CONDUIT ST. / LONDON". Lid with Duke's gold initials below a crown (C) type-written and hand corrected note reads "This vesta was given to Mr. John Fyfe, Chief Engineer, CPR Arrow Lakes Steamship service by Arthur William Patrick Albert, First Duke of Connaught, (1 May 1850 - 16 Jan 1942) in 1911 (crossed through) when the Duke and Duchess toured in Canada." Edited note: "trip was in 1912 Oct 7, not 1911 & on S.S. Moyie".
